Words of Wisdom

In the wake of PIPA and SOPAs temporary shelving, collective facebookians, wikipedans, goog-elites, and many more web users (not counting godaddy) are breathing a collective sigh of relief. However, I will bring up the obvious question:

   What now?

We haven’t won, not by a long shot. Instead, what will happen is our Great Leaders will decide to break up this bill and slip it into other bills, like health care and education. It will take longer, but bit by bit the pieces of legislature will be passed, and quite suddenly government censorship will be everywhere, without warning. What could also happen is that in November, a new President will take office, and dig up SOPA and pass it. Why? Because by then our government will have found a suitable alternative to all the websites that will black themselves out. And even if we protest, send letters, harass with phone calls,  emails, or death threats, in the end it won’t matter. Because the people who will vote it into office will not have America’s best interest at heart. Because they know that we, the people, will eventually give under pressure, and settle into a youtube-free existence, we will adapt and forget. Even if one or two politicians get voted out of office, new ones will get put in, none of them with the people’s best interest in mind. Take a look at our current line up: Newt Gingrich, current President Obama, and Mitt Romney. Which of these people has even shown one ounce of concern for the American people? Which of these people is in the 99%? Which of these people knows what it’s like to be an average American? And how many readers out there have said to themselves ‘I DO want Romney’ or ‘Hell, yeah, Gingrich all the way’? No one. We as Americans never had a say in this. I won’t even call them Americans anymore, as they do not live the average Americans lifestyle, nor do they empathize with the working American’s troubles. From now on they are called one percentiles.
No, what happened was a bunch of these one percentiles held a popularity contest, and the winner will be whoever doesn’t suck as much as the rest of the contestants.
It shouldn’t be this way. We deserve a voice. We deserve a government run by the people, not the percentiles. We deserve candidates like us. We deserve the safety and protection that we work towards. We deserve a Voice.
